I'll be doing a live interview on Byron Bay's Bay FM 99.9 (listen online at http://www.bayfm.org) on Monday 21st March 10.30am on "The Lighthouse Lounge" show with Andrew Travis chatting about the Arts Northern Rivers Brokership Program that I've been selected for. (See details below)

---------------------------

Six local music acts have been selected to take part in an intensive industry brokerage program. The Round Mountain Girls, The Lucky Wonders, Mick McHugh, Susanna Carman, Yeshe and Dan Hannaford, will benefit from a series of development workshops, one to one business advice and the opportunity to present their work to key music industry representatives from around Australia, at an upcoming Northern Rivers Music Showcase event, to be held at Byron Bay Community Centre on March 23.

This unique program is being organised by Arts Northern Rivers Music Brokers Claire McGarry and Sam Fell, who say they are thrilled to be working with six of the most exciting, talented and focused artists from the Northern Rivers region.

“We received over 30 applications from local musicians, groups and music industry personnel, but what made these six stand out was their level of experience, drive and passion,” says McGarry.

“Each of them has clearly defined plans for developing their talent, reputation and business to the next level. We are currently working intensively to increase their knowledge and skills, and broker industry relationships that will support them through these next stages.”

The Music Brokerage Project will culminate in a Northern Rivers Music Showcase gig at the Byron Community Centre on Wednesday March 23rd, an evening of sensational sonic delights, showcasing the Northern Rivers music scene to industry personnel, who are travelling to the region from around Australia for the event.

Local audiences are also welcome to the gig, which features six acts in one night – from the intricate and beautiful songs of Susanna Carman to the grit and grind of Dan Hannaford, the pop/roots sensibilities of The Lucky Wonders, the upbeat realism of Mick McHugh, the boisterous, incendiary funky bluegrass of The Round Mountain Girls, and the primal world sounds of Yeshe.

According to McGarry this is an evening that will leave you in no doubt as to the musical depth and talent prevalent within the Northern Rivers area.

“The Music Showcase will stand as an example of the talent within this region, and will also give an opportunity to local music fans to show national industry how strong support is around here for live music,” she comments.

The event will also serve as the official launch of an accompanying compilation album, featuring all six artists, a true representation of what’s happening in our own backyard.

The show starts at 7pm, Wednesday March 23, at Byron Bay Community Centre. Tickets cost $15, available from the Community Centre, www.byroncentre.com.au, and on the door, if not sold out.  CDs will be sold on the night.
